Rooted in our guiding values, these next steps can help anyone move forward in their journey with Jesus. We’re a people of movement and action. What’s your next step?
We can know God’s truth through Jesus and His Word. Take your next step to know Jesus personally, join in worship gatherings, or participate in Baptism.
At Chambersburg First Church of God, we believe that Jesus is changing lives and our hope is that you will be able to see that and allow Jesus to change yours as well. That change begins with one simple thing: realizing that you are a sinner in need of a Savior.
The bible says that all of us have a problem and that problem can’t be covered up, it can’t be dealt with by simply doing good things, it’s a problem called sin and Jesus came to this earth as the solution to our problem.
The bible says that when we realize we are sinners in need of a savior that all we must do to be saved is believe on the name of Jesus and confess his name. Romans 10:9 says, “If you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
We want to give you an opportunity to make that decision today. Right now, wherever you are, just take a moment and pray, talk to God and tell him, “God I believe that I am a sinner in need of a Savior and I believe you sent your Son to die on a cross to save me from my sins. I believe that You are God and that Jesus rose from the dead and I accept this gift of salvation.”
If you made that decision we’d love to know about it. Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and tell us that you prayed to receive Christ. Include your contact info and we’d love to provide you with some resources to help you take your next steps in your walk with Jesus Christ.
Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name he gave the right to become children of God. – John 1:12
But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your since have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear you. – Isaiah 59:2
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. – Romans 5:8
You were saved by faith in God, who treats us much better than we deserve. This is God’s gift to you, and not anything you have done on your own. – Ephesians 2:8-9
Thank you for your interest in participating in this event we call baptism. Simply put, baptism is an outward declaration and celebration of your inward decision to trust Christ with your life, for eternity. At CFCOG we baptize in a way that we call immersion, which, means that you literally walk into the water and will be immersed under the water. This way of baptism is representative of the fact that Jesus died on the cross, was buried, and walked out of the grave, alive, so that each of us can have new and eternal life.
When you step into the water, you are letting the world know that you have walked into a new life of faith in Jesus Christ and that you are committing to follow him down a new path. If you have made the decision to follow Jesus, baptism is the next step in your spiritual journey.
If you are interested in being baptized you can let us know by submitting the baptism registration or by calling the church office at 717-263-9523. We will be so glad to help you take this next step and it will be a great blessing to you.
We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that just as Christ was raise from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. – Romans 6:4
You will be his witness to all men of what you have seen and heard. And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.’ – Acts 22:15-16
We can grow with God’s people when we get connected to his family through LifeGroups, LifeClasses, and church membership.
Chambersburg First Church of God exists to serve as a tool that God uses for changing lives. Growing crowds, expanding facilities, and a recognizable name are meaningless unless people are truly encountering God and being changed by that encounter. At CFCOG our regular attendance is greater than our “membership” but that’s okay. In fact, we like it that way and expect it to stay that way. There are people that come who are exploring their faith and checking out what church is all about. These people are always welcome to attend and participate at whatever level they feel comfortable, but in general, the ministry of life transformation is usually accomplished by those who are fully committed to knowing and growing their relationship in Christ.
In the following membership introduction document we will examine the philosophies and procedures of CFCOG. It is our hope that some will read these pages, catch the vision, and fully commit themselves to the ministry of this body. It is also our expectation that others will read these pages, realize this is not the place for them, and continue their search elsewhere. We realize that not everyone will have the same philosophy of ministry, theological belief, or desire to influence our local community and the world. That’s okay. This “Introduction to Membership” is designed to let people know what we’re all about before they make the commitment of becoming a member.
While we value every attendee we choose to distinguish between members and non-members for several reasons.
First, we believe it is biblical.
While the Bible never specifically mentions the word membership, it does show that people were committed to one another in deep spiritual relationships at the local level. Many New Testament books first addressed specific congregations of people who dealt with many of the same issues we face today.
Second, we believe it is valuable to the individual.
Committing to one group of people creates accountability. It protects the individual from deviating into improper theology and gives a sense of connection and ownership. It also assists the process of transformation by submitting to the spiritual authority of others.
It is our hope that some will read these pages, catch the vision, and fully commit themselves to the ministry of this body.
Third, we believe it is beneficial to the body.
Formal membership is one tool by which the church can evaluate the process of transformation. As people grow in their faith they show deeper levels of commitment and service. Membership is one way to measure that process.
Finally, we believe it is practical to the organization.
While voting is rare at CFCOG, there are limited decisions that need to be carried out by those who form the core of the body. Membership provides a standard by which this can be done.
While becoming a member is not difficult, it does require attendance at one of the membership classes and the satisfactory completion of a short questionnaire to be filled out with some biographical information and a testimony explaining your faith journey.
The only requirement that we require for membership at CFCOG is evidence of your personal commitment to faith in Jesus Christ. Of course, if this commitment is an uncertainty in your life our desire is to help you understand what that means and how to make that commitment. Our main desire is for you to know Jesus Christ.
As for the growing part, we are all in that process. Whether we have been members for 50 years or 5 months, we are all in the growing stages – growing in our knowledge of God, his Word, and his purposes for our lives.
Thank you for your interest in CFCOG and the contribution you have already made to this church. If you have any questions that are not answered in this “Introduction” the pastoral staff is always ready to help you in any way.*

CFCOG Membership Covenant
- The Bible CFCOG recognizes the authority of the Bible and the fact that it is our guide for living. The Bible is the basis for preaching and teaching in the church and a necessary part of an individual’s personal spiritual diet.
- Salvation We invite and encourage people at all points in their spiritual walk to attend CFCOG. However at the point of becoming a member of the church, a person must first become a member of God’s family by having placed their faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior and also recognizing Jesus as the leader of his or her life.
- Lifestyle When a person recognizes Jesus Christ as the leader of his or her life, that person’s lifestyle must reflect this fact. The Bible gives specific insight into issues of lifestyle that reflects the call in Scripture for our bodies to be temples of the Holy Spirit. The Bible also gives specific commands that are important for us to follow as godly people. Holy living is the believer’s privilege and responsibility, because it will bring honor and glory to God.
- Unity There is a tremendous amount of diversity and individuality in the kingdom of God and in CFCOG. But as members of the church, we commit ourselves to a spirit of unity and a loyalty to each other. There is order to the church and God directs office-bearers and leaders to provide direction and leadership in the church. As members we are called to submit to this order and pray for the leaders of the ministry.
- Commitment An effective ministry can only be carried out by its members who are fully committed to its mission and who are faithful in attendance at the services, faithful in serving as God equipped them, and faithful in giving of their time and resources as God has blessed them.

We believe that God’s plans are more important than our plans, it’s one of our core values. God’s plans for each person are to serve and give our lives for His cause. We aren’t called to come and sit, but to go and serve and we do everything we can as a staff and leadership to help you find your best fit for service and ministry. Volunteering is vital to our church, but also for each person. It helps us to move beyond a consumer mindset, to becoming a partner in God’s mission.
There are so many places where you can be involved. You can be part of the First Impressions Team, help with our children’s ministry or lead with our youth group, you can get involved in one of our 3 worship teams or help with technical support. Whatever your gifts may be, there’s a place that you can be involved and discover all that God can do through you and all that he has for you at the same time.
If you are interested in being involved, send us an e-mail at email@example.com and let us help you get plugged into the church.
Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms. – 1 Peter 4:10
Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. – John 13:14-15
